Vacation at the Lake

Mom, Dad, and I headed out on our first family vacation this weekend to the city of love...Paris (Tennessee, that is). After a long car ride (during which I was not excited to be in my car seat), we finally arrived at Nana and Poppy's lake house. A few minutes after we got there, my cousin Caroline arrived with her Mommy and Daddy...and a present for me.

I was not very quick about opening my gift, so Caroline decided to help me out.

It was a furry overnight bag with a monster buddy on the front to take when I stay at Nana or Grandma houses.

Caroline has one too, but hers is pink with a kitty cat on the front. I say pink is for sissys (sorry Caroline). Thank you for my gift!!

After all of the present opening it was play time. I'm a little new at this toy-playing business, so Caroline had to show me the ropes.

Apparently after I went to bed the cake came out. Uncle Chip, Aunt Katie, and Caroline brought Mommy a belated birthday cake. Thanks guys, I didn't want cake anyway.

First Swim

I went swimming for the first time last Saturday and loved it. Mom thought that this would be the case, since I love the bath tub. Now that I've got some practice under my belt, I'm all set for our family vacation next weekend. Michael Phelps, here I come.

Refugees

Why am I without clothes in this picture? Well, let me explain...Last Friday our air conditioner decided to konk out. Mom says this is just our luck, given that the A/C unit is only 3 years old and it happened to be one of the hottest, most humid weekends of the summer. The repair man that came on Friday said that he had to order a part to fix it, and it wouldn't be in until Tuesday or Wednesday. Therefore, our family became refugees for the weekend. We got to stay at Grandma and Grandpa's house, where it was a cool 70 degrees (as opposed to the balmy 86 degrees of my own home). It finally cooled down on Monday, so we moved back home and opened all of the windows. And today, relief finally arrived in the form of an air conditioning repair man. Just in time, since it's getting hot again.

Want to know how I stayed cool at night? Two words: Man Tank. I don't know why Mom and Dad find these pictures so hilarious, but they do.

Rice Cereal - Take One

At my recent 4 month check-up my doctor told Mom and Dad that kiddos like me start solids between 4 and 6 months. Since I'm over 4 1/2 months and am exhibiting many of the signs that I'm ready to begin solids, Mom decided to give rice cereal (a very, very thinned out version) a trial run. Here are the results...

Okay Mom, bring it on.

Whoa, whoa, what the heck is that stick you're shoving in my mouth?!

Hmmm...not so sure about this...

Yep, I think I'll spit most of this out on my bib.

So what did I think? I think my face says it all. Mom says we'll try again later.

Rough Day

Friday was a rough day for the Kenworthy household (or a "ruff day" in Maggie's case). It all started with a trip to the doctor for my four month check up. I got my second round of immunizations (the same ones that I got at two months and had zero reaction to). Although I screamed like mad when they stuck me with needles, I seemed to be doing okay a few minutes after, so Mom went ahead and took me to daycare and headed to work. In the meantime, Dad stopped by home after my doctor's appointment only to find a swollen-faced Maggie. Apparently, she had eaten either a spider or a bee (no surprise, since Fat Maggie eats everything) and had an allergic reaction. So, Dad had to drop her off at the vet for cortizone shots and observation. They told him later that she was so nervous she wouldn't eat a thing, which means that she was really nervous! Thankfully she was all better when Dad picked her up at the end of the day.

I, on the other hand, was not doing so well. Mom got a call from daycare in the mid-afternoon to let her know that I was screaming like crazy (I know, that's what some babies do sometimes, but not I. I am a very good baby normally, so this was very out of character for me). So, Mom came to pick me up and take me home. For the next 6 hours or so, I continued my screaming fit, and still had a high fever, which continued to go up, even after Tylenol and a tepid bath. So Mom and Dad called the doctor on call, who told them to go ahead and take me into the ER (just how we all wanted to spend our Friday night). Because my temp continued to increase in the hospital (and I am recovering from a cold and ear infection), the doctor had to do a chest x-ray. This was not fun, but I did okay. And, the good news was I did not have pneumonia...just a bad reaction to a vaccine.

Here I am the next day doing much better.

And Maggie is too!

Changing by the minute

I've been growing up so fast and changing every day, especially over the past few weeks. Mom says that I am like a different baby than I was a few weeks ago. At that time, I could hold my head up, but was no where near sitting up on my own. I also have begun grabbing and holding onto toys (and putting everything in my mouth). I've even started teething. My two bottom teeth are starting to poke through those little gums of mine (which has also led to my waking up in the middle of the night screaming).

Here I am playing with in my Bebe Pod seat. I love any toys that I can swat at or that make noise (or both, like this one).

Mom just had to put this on here because she thought it was too cute.

First visit to the State Fair

Today marked a big event in the young life of this native hoosier. It was my first trip to the Indiana State Fair. I learned the answer to the age old question, "Is there more than corn in Indiana?" Yes, yes there is. There is a lot of stinky livestock, tractors, and deep fried everything, including lattes, cheesecake on a stick (as if cheesecake by itself wasn't fattening enough), cookie dough, twinkies, and, of course, funnel cakes.
Where to Mom? Cheesecake or cows?

I got to see a lot of neat animals, like the big horses inside this barn. However, I was more interested in people watching than looking at the animals.

We even saw an elephant (because nothing says Indiana to me like an elephant).

This was my favorite stop, but it made me hungry...
...which led us to this stop. Hey, a baby's got to eat too!
